Lancaster (Eddie's Jewels) is in full battle with York (Darlow's Enigma); Lancaster came first, but York will bloom long after Lancaster fades. The New Dawn is just breaking, while the Red New Dawn is blazing spectacularly all along the south side of the fence and the Autumn Sunset is burning in the north. Don Juan is partying on the northeast edge, while Lavender Lassie is making merry despite its relative youth. Mystery Rose #1 is blooming heavily, perfuming the air with its outstanding scent (wish I knew what this one was!). The rugosa rose is almost buried under the Chilean Potato Shrub (massively purple with all its blooms) but still blooming and scenting the air. Joseph's Coat is turning all kinds of colors, and Mystery Rose #2 (maybe a Blush Noisette?) is climbing all over the place. The Impressionist, Mystery Rose #3, and Galway Bay have yet to put in appearances, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. And of course the non-roses are partying too; the wisteria still has a few blooms, the japanese honeysuckle is just getting started, the clematis is blooming in fits and starts, and the sweet peas are climbing into the rose bushes. Should the sun decide to come out, I might drown in all the perfume.

Updated to add: upon further investigation, I'm almost certain that Mystery Rose #1 is a Bourbon rose, and there's a not-insignificant chance that it's a Souvenir de President Lincoln. Another possibility is that it's a Reine Victoria.
