jaunthie | Catching up

Yes, I've been silent for a few days, not from a dearth of things to talk about, but from a dearth of time in which to post. So I'm taking a quick sanity break to update the blog.

What I've been up to (besides work that is; you can assume WORK happened on all weekdays and some of the weekend):

Thursday: Tried again to reach my aunt by phone; picked up and re-read two Sister Frevisse mysteries apropos to the season; had to deep-water the new herb beds because the promised rain never happened

Friday: Left work early with fisherbear to rescue tangerinpenguin from the hospital after his procedure. Discovered that Swedish hasn't changed much physically, but they have a spiffy restaurant-like "here's your flashing coaster" system for paging people when their patient is being moved to recovery. Things took rather longer than planned, but 'Penguin was okay and they seemed to treat him well, which is the important thing. Had an amusing adventure signing for 'Penguin's meds, being neither related to him nor having any signatory "she can do this for me" statement.

Saturday: Had a lovely walk to U Village with fisherbear, did some necessary shopping (and picked up a few unnecessary but much-wanted paperbacks), had a lovely lunch out, wrapped the baby present for LawyerLady's shower, and spent some time actually READING. Also spent a little time going over the letter game and planning next move.

Sunday: After a nice morning walk with fisherbear, I got gussied-up, picked up humilitas, and drove to LawyerLady's baby shower. Humilitas, hiker_chick and I had fun being fish out of water (in this case, non-moms); I enjoyed the shower quite a bit. The hostess did a lovely job, there weren't that many baby-shower games (and what games there were weren't the usual sickeningly-sweet ones), and it was fun watching LawyerLady unwrap all the loot. The quilt and the matching bear appeared to go over well. Humilitas and I went out after the shower and got caught up on letter-game gossip. Later that evening, in one of the random coincidences of the universe that seem to happen so often, I got a wonderful call from Jenya out of the blue and got caught up on all the news - so good talking to her!

Monday: Had to stay late at work for training, but by some miracle traffic home didn't absolutely suck, so fisherbear and I made it back to our side of the lake in time for a late dinner out. We couldn't find the new sushi place fisherbear wanted to try, so we wound up at Thai One On eating really yummy Thai food. Wound up wrapping up the evening watching a movie together on the couch. Finally managed to contact my aunt, and she's going to try and call me tonight from Grandma H's room so I can talk to her a bit (she still doesn't have a phone, and probably couldn't use it if she did).
