I've bought myself a second pair of walking shoes. I realized that I already have over 100 miles on my current, not-so-new-anymore pair, and that shoes are supposedly only good for 500 miles or so before they start breaking down. I also realized that I'm going to walk farther than that before the 3-Day, and that it would be nice to be able to switch off shoes every-other-walk, to give them more time to air out, etcetera. So I bought a second pair of Etonics, with the not-Superfeet-but-the-other-brand-of-insert-whose-name-I-can-never-remember support inserts. And I got two different colors of reflector dots to put on the heels of each shoe, so I can tell the two pairs apart.

Part of me feels horribly consumeristic. The other part of me feels I've done the intelligent thing.

Shoes are very smart.

You only get one pair of knees, and shoes are cheaper than physical therapy or joint replacement!

Amen. You only get one back, too. :o)

You're both right, of course. But it still feels weird, owning two perfectly good pairs of workout shoes. I'm sure I'll get over it. :-)

It'll just become part of the lifestyle. And then if you're like me, the worn walking shoes will become your regular shoes, and then the gardening shoes.

I got Superfeet for my hiking boots, but I never thought of getting them for my workout shoes. Hmmm.

I find it makes a great deal of difference for me, but I have pronation issues. You might want to try it, just to see if it makes a positive difference for you.

Are your shoes motion-control shoes? If you have pronation issues you can get shoes designed to deal with that.

Asics makes the best motion-control shoes I know of. Brooks has some good ones too, but I like Asics better.

Asics are good, but not usually narrow enough in the heel for me. Sauconys are also good - that was my last pair - but I've found that the Etonics work best for me. Which is a pain, because there's exactly one local store that sells them that I've been able to find. But hey, it's worth the trouble.
