Totally missing the point
Sep. 12th, 2006 09:55 amFrom the BBC News Web site:
Dead stingrays with their tails cut off have been found in Australia, sparking concern that fans of naturalist Steve Irwin may be avenging his death.
These "fans" need to get their heads examined (not to mention their butts thrown in jail).
Extrapolating from everything the man stood for, Steve Irwin would have been the first person to defend the stingrays. He was a wildlife conservationist - he'd be out there conserving and protecting the stingrays, and denouncing the killers. His death is very sad, both for his family and for the conservation movement and for our species in general (in my opinion, he was one of the very few "TV personalities" out there who really was making the world a better place by doing what he loved to do). But to have animals killed in "revenge" for the animal-related accident that cost him his life last week - that makes his death a tragedy.
Sorry you're not still here to rip these folks a new one, Mr. Irwin.
